Stripper plates and pressure pads are essential components in stamping dies that hold the sheet material firmly during cutting operations and strip the finished part from the punches after the press opens. Stripper Plate Functions

The stripper plate serves two primary functions:

• Material Holding: Before the punch contacts the material, the stripper plate clamps the material flat against the die surface. This prevents material movement, reduces burr, and ensures clean cutting.

• Part Stripping: As the punch retracts upward, the stripper plate stays on the material (held by springs or gas springs), stripping the part off the punch and preventing it from being lifted with the punch.

Stripper Design Considerations

Effective stripper design requires attention to several details:

• Stripping Force: Sufficient force must be applied to hold the material and strip the part. Too little force causes part lifting; too much force increases wear and press load.

• Guide Pillar Integration: The stripper plate typically rides on guide pillars, maintaining alignment with the punch and die components.

• Pressure Evenness: Multiple springs or gas springs are positioned to distribute pressure evenly across the stripper surface.

• Material Contact Surface: The stripper face is precision ground and may include urethane pads or serrated surfaces for improved grip on slippery materials.

Types of Stripper Systems
